The Amazing Place- an amazing opportunity!

The CCDU is giving children all around Christchurch the opportunity to design an Amazing Place in Christchurch Central. They know we are Christchurch's future and they want to know what we want in our city.

The Year 8s at Selwyn House have the opportunity to work in a group to create a part of our city. There will be 17 anchor projects in the CBD, like the Performing Arts Precinct and the Metro Sports Facility. The people running the competition are asking Y7 to Y11 students how they can make these projects better so that people will use them.

This is a big project. It will take us two school terms and a lot of hard work to make our plans brilliant. We even have to create a contract on how we will work together and split any prize money.

We are going to need your help. We want to know what you want to see when you come to Christchurch. Watch our blog because we have lots of questions for you in the coming weeks.

Mrs C-M asked us two questions.

The first question was

What bothers you about Christchurch Central at the moment?

The second question was

What would make you go into the "new" Christchurch?

We are really excited to have the opportunity to have a say in what the new Christchurch might look like. Not many children get this opportunity. We hope you will help us by answering some of the questions we have in the next few days about your favourite places, no matter where you are in the world.

  1. Christchurch is already a good place to bike, but many city roads are still cycle-unfriendly. For example Bealey Ave is bad because there are few cycle lanes.

    1. To aCyclist,

We have a group that is really encouraging cycle lanes at the moment. My dad cycles to work now because it's faster than taking the car. We think cycle lanes is a key idea at the moment. Thanks for your comment.
