Medieval Maths

Linking with our Unit of Inquiry 'I Love the Knight Life' and the Mathematics strand of measurement, 8C have been designing Medieval castles in Maths, including all measurements - length, perimeter and area. We were also given the cost of the materials for the castle and we had to cost out the price it would be to build our castle. We could use a spreadsheet with formulas if we wished. The requirement was to use a variety of shapes, both simple and compound. We had to use a scale (2 cm : 1 m) in order to complete our calculations in centimetres and metres.

Maybe, in the current building climate in Christchurch, and the 20% increase in building costs, we will have to go back and reprice everything using our knowledge about percentage increases!
