What are Whakatauki?

‘Whakataukī’ are Maori Proverbs. These are sayings that reflect the values and advice of past generations. Whakatauki often use metaphors to convey their meaning.

We are sharing a Whakatauki each day this week for Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori. Lilli will be sharing the whakatauki with you this week.

Here is Monday's Whakatauki.

Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi.

With your basket and my basket the people will live.
