Dress Like a Princess- Emily's Personal Project

For my personal project I have chosen to create 2 outfits for 6-7 year old girls.
I have chosen this project because I am interested in sewing and I wanted to learn a new skill. My granny sewed and she made all these exciting things, so does my sister and I wanted to know how to do it so I could make exciting things like them.

Process:
  • Find some websites
  • Have my mentor meetings
  • Contact experts
  • Get a book with the skills and techniques in it to help me
  • Get fabric.
  • Make the clothes (dress, top and skirt)

The main skills that I have learnt:
  • How to use a sewing machine and all the different ways to sew using the tread
  • How to sew properly so it will not fray.
  • All the special words
  • All the techniques that they use for sewing.

  1. Hi Emily,

I really love the clothes you have created. I know that if I was 6 or 7 I'd love to wear them. You should be proud of your project because it's really good. What was the hardest object to sew?

  2. Oh my goodness - I will have to show this to Xanthe!! Congratulations Emily - I don't think there is enough sharing these days of all these 'old school' skills like cooking and sewing. I know from watching my two girls growing up just how useful these skills have been to Ginnie when making costumes and dress-ups! What a lovely connection to develop with your grandma too! Well done and I am looking forward to seeing the real-life garments!

  4. Emily,
I love how you have detailed your process - that will help keep you on track. I hope that the most difficult part of your project will be choosing the fabric!
Enjoy the learning, and keep sharing, please!
