This week, all the Year 8s are involved in a whole week of exciting activities which will help us become effective leaders. Leadership is a huge part of our Year 8 programme and every Y8 girl has an important leadership role- these roles help us make Selwyn House even better and help us develop as leaders.
We have an ongoing inquiry called "Take Me To Your Leader" which explores what makes a great leader and helps us develop the skills we will need to be successful in our leadership roles.
Here are the highlights of Day 1.
1. A warm-up game to get us moving and thinking about how to give instructions for a group activity.
2. A guest speaker- the amazing Rachel Candy, White Fern and Canterbury Magicians member, came to talk to us about being an effective leader and what it means to work successfully in a team.
Rachel gave us lots of great tips and things to think about. One of the things she said was that leaders need to be prepared to make mistakes- if they don't make any mistakes than perhaps they aren't taking enough risks?
3. We are working on a collaborative task together. You won't believe what it is; we are learning to bucket drum! Roanna Funcke, principal percussionist from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, came in and taught us the skills of bucket drumming. It was so much fun! We are practicing something to share with you here on our blog later this week!
It was a really busy day! Have you got any advice for us about being a leader?
